CCP’s well-acclaimed Virgin LabFest centers Mindanaoan Thespians

Extra Virgin LabFest, an expansion of the Cultural Center of the Philippines’ Virgin LabFest, centers Mindanaoan narratives to elevate the theater experience in the regions.

As the first of its kind in Mindanao, the Extra Virgin LabFest is set to stage fresh new one-act plays written by playwrights who are based in – or originated from – Mindanao.

“The theater-making is not new to Mindanao, not new to Cagayan de Oro. There have been a lot of efforts [on] staging, musicals, and productions we have been doing.” as Mr. Hobart Savoir mentioned, the Festival Director for EVLF. “In fact, we are fortunate to have been given this opportunity to host a Manila festival and bring it here to our region and we call it Extra Virgin LabFest.”

Extra Virgin LabFest (EVLF) is organized by the Liceo Office of Cultural Affairs (LOCA) through CCP’s grant. It is spearheaded by LOCA director Hobart Savior who takes reins as festival director.

The festival is being supported by the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) through the National Committee on Drama, Writers’ Bloc, Liceo de Cagayan University, and Infinite Lotus Productions.

Performances will take place at Liceo de Cagayan University’s Rodelsa Hall from December 5 to 7, 2019. An opening gala will be performed at the same venue on December 4, 2019. This also serves as the theater festival’s opening, with a twin-bill production of Dominique La Victoria’s “Ang Bata sa Drum” and Maynard Manansala’s “Dalawang Gabi.”
